Work Location:            Turlock, CA

Employment Status:     Full-Time, Nonexempt

Starting Rate of Pay:    $15.00 per hour

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Home Administrator, the Lead Direct Support Professional will provide assistance and support to residents of Steps Home a manner that ensures client health, safety, and happiness.  Duties include: client supervision, training in personal hygiene, grooming, household management skills (meal planning and preparation, housekeeping, laundry, emergency procedures, telephone use, money management, safety, shopping), utilization of community resources and public transportation, recreation and leisure activities, positive interaction behaviors, communication, health, and participation in community activities as prescribed in each individual’s IPP, and maintenance of an overall safe therapeutic environment. In the absence of the Home Administrator, the Lead Direct Support Professional will provide guidance and direction to other direct support staff on duty. This role is a direct support position, as the Lead Direct Support staff is part of the staffing schedule and included in the client-to-staff staffing ratio.  See below for additional job duties and responsibilities below.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In absence of the Home Administrator, provide guidance and support to program staff while ensuring the health and safety of clients;
  • Maintain client confidentiality.  Follow reporting procedures regarding denial of rights and special incident reports and mandated abuse reporting;
  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and physical care needs including but not limited to the following:  medical needs, nutritional, personal hygienic and meal preparations. Client personal hygiene needs may require exposure to bodily fluids (feces, urine, blood etc.);
  • Assist clients with household management needs including but not limited to the following: custodial, maintenance, schedules and routines, record keeping, and documentation;
  • Teach community living skills which include but are not limited to the following:  cooking, laundry, telephone usage, community awareness and access, relationships, and budgeting;
  • Participate in the implementation of each client Individual Service Plan (ISP), collection and analysis of ongoing data, and other assigned documentation pertaining to each client’s program;
  • Practice behavior modification and client redirection while modeling appropriate behavior;
  • Teach safety awareness to clients while on community outings;
  • Promote full engagement of all clients in program activities while recognizing unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities and resolve issues if necessary;
  • Attend required training and staff meetings;
  • Adhere to all Omelagah, Inc. policies, procedures and program rules;
  • All other duties as assigned by the Home Administrator;

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Must pass fingerprint background check (Child Abuse Index, Criminal Record Clearance);
  • Must be 18 years of age;
  • Possess a valid California state driver’s license;
  • Recent, clean TB test and health screening (within one year);
  • First Aid/CPR certification required (within 2 weeks);
  • Clean DMV printout and proof of auto insurance;
  • Ability to work independently and display good independent judgment;
  • Strong time management skills, patient and detailed oriented;
  • Fluent report writing skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with clients, parents, social workers, fellow workers, and others in a positive and constructive manner;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends to meet client needs;

Desired Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field, or one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities who have a history of forensic involvement;
  • Excellent oral communication skills and fluent report writing skills;
  • Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
